Goodbye VHS!
After more than 30 years of entertainment, VHS tapes are coming to an end. According to the LA Times, the last major supplier shipped their final truckload back in October.
Gone are the days of broken hinge flaps and watching movies that gain a little static with each use.
Patrons may continue to enjoy the VHS collections of public libraries for some time, but as the tapes grow old they may not be replaceable.
Many people have already made the switch to DVD. But with Blu-ray discs coming around, it’s hard to know if or when it will overtake DVDs.
Goodbye VHS! It’s been fun and I’m sorry for cheating on you with DVD!

The question has also been brought up as to if we should be carrying Blu-Ray. What do you guys think?

I don’t have Blu-Ray yet, but it’d be nice to have it available for those that do. It might make a good public survey for the library to see how well it’s being adopted.

I think the library would be to ahead of the curve if they started purchasing Blu-Ray now. Blu-Ray is actually doing better than DVD over both formats initial life cycle. However, only a quarter of US households have an hdtv let alone a Blu-Ray player. I do wish the library would purchase them but it would be a little early.
