Authors! Get Your Local Authors Here!

Here at the Grand Rapids Public Library, we love hosting authors. Over the past couple of years, we have brought in some real fan favorites: Marc Brown, Holly Black, Max Brooks, ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Eric Jerome Dickey, Homer Hickam, Ha Jin, the list goes on and on.

But we also have a commitment to putting the spotlight on Michigan-based authors. Each month, through the VanderVeen Center for the Book, we bring in authors based in Michigan or whose books take place in Michigan, to speak about their work. Our patrons love these programs too. But we’ve discovered that there are many West Michigan-based authors who would also like to have an opportunity to share their work at the library. Some are self-published. Some have national publishers. They represent all different types of genres.

We decided to give them an event to share their work at the Local Author Book Fair on Saturday, October 15 from 10 am – 2 pm. Here, book lovers can come and connect with their favorite local authors, meet new ones, get tips on writing and publishing, purchase or check out books, and explore the local author scene. Over 25 authors will be there. Kevin Max will discuss the creation of his new graphic novel, Fiefdom of Angels, at 12:15 pm.

So stop by the library and meet some local authors, get inspired and stock up on some new books to read.

Ivan Jenson will be signing copies of the paperback novel Dead Artist.  A story of an artist who has supernatural visitations from famous dead artists.  A spooky and inspirational story just in time for Halloween. You can also purchase the novel on Kindle and Nook. The book has been getting great reviews.
