With 33 events in June, July and August, we truly do offer a program for your every taste and mood this summer. Pick up a brochure at any of our libraries or check out the full list online. In the meantime, here’s a sampling to wet your appetite.

June 19th, 7pm, Main Library
Elizabeth Kostova (yes, THAT Elizabeth Kostova) joins us to talk about painters, writing inspiration and her book The Swan Thieves. She’ll be signing books after the program.

July 17, 6pm, Riverside Park – Boat Launch #2
Secrets of Minimalist Running — In this interactive workshop with Scott Hadley, Ph.D., DPT., learn the basics of running injury-free in minimalist shoes.

July 21, 11am, Stella’s Lounge and downtown
80s Game Quest — You’ll need a partner and a smartphone with the SVNGR app loaded for this 80s-themed scavenger hunt and pub crawl. Prizes will be awarded not only to the Quest Mega Champions, but also for best 80s costumes! You must be 21 years or older to participate.

July 26th, 7pm, Fountain Street Church
Michael Moore (yes, THAT Michael Moore) will treat us to an unforgettable evening of humorous stories from his memoir Here Comes Trouble, answer audience questions, and sign books after his talk. I’d recommend arriving early since the last time he visited Grand Rapids, over 2000 people showed up to see him!

August 8, 7pm, Main Library
A Brief History of the Wedding Dress — Join Suzanne Eberle in exploring the evolution of the white wedding dress, its cultural and social symbolism, and the changing styles that reflect both current fashion and a return to Victorian traditions. Shelley Becker Mueller will discuss her family’s tradition of selling bridal gowns at Becker’s Bridal. Wedding cake will be provided by Cakes Plus.

August 10, 6pm, Wealthy Street Theatre
Bread Breakers 2012 Rhyme Bully — In this gladiator-style rhyme contest presented by Governor Slugwell and the Grand Rapids Hip Hop Coalition, 7 to 10 top competitors face off with nothing but a DJ, one mic and supreme rhyme skills. Each competitor will rhyme for three rounds to show their content, delivery and presence. Do you have what it takes to be the 2012 Bread Breakers Rhyme Bully? Apply by July 8 to find out. Ages 18 and up.

August 15, 7:30pm, Riverside Park -Boat Launch #2
Ghost Story Campfire — It isn’t summer without telling ghost stories around a campfire. Join us for a good old-fashioned campfire complete with spooky stories. Bring your lawn chair and be prepared to tell your best ghost story! Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
